Privacy Policy
What Badoo AI collects on the website, in the AI tools and in the app; why; how long it's kept; who it's shared with; and the rights and choices you have. Written to be read.
This policy explains what Badoo AI collects, why, how long it is kept, who it is shared with, and the choices and rights you have. It is written to be read, so it is short where it can be and specific where it matters. The one-line version: the website uses analytics and advertising cookies you can refuse; the AI tools keep nothing you type; the app collects what a dating app needs to work and lets you see, correct and delete it.
Badoo AI is an independent service and is not affiliated with Badoo, Bumble Inc., Match Group or any other dating-app company. This policy covers only what Badoo AI does; other apps we write about have their own policies, and our guides (for example Is Badoo safe?) point to them.
1. Who we are
Badoo AI ("we", "us") operates the website badooai.com, the Badoo AI dating app, and the free AI dating tools published on the site. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. Contact details are in section 12.
2. The website (badooai.com)
Reading the site does not require an account, and we do not ask for your name or email to read anything. The site collects the following.
| What | Why | Provider | Your choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Analytics | Which pages are read, for how long, from which country and device type, so we can improve the guides. IP addresses are truncated where the provider supports it. | Google Analytics | Refuse analytics cookies via the consent notice or browser settings; Google's browser opt-out add-on. |
| Advertising | To show ads that support the site and measure them. Ad providers may use cookies or similar identifiers to personalise ads based on your browsing. | Google AdSense and its certified partners | Refuse advertising cookies via the consent notice; change personalisation at Google's Ads Settings; you will still see ads, but not personalised ones. |
| Server logs | IP address, user agent, requested page and time, kept briefly for security and to keep the site running. | Our hosting provider | None; logs are deleted automatically (see retention). |
| Embedded content | Some pages embed videos (YouTube, privacy-enhanced mode) or link to app stores. Those services may set cookies when you interact with the embed. | YouTube; Google Play; Apple App Store | Don't play the embed; the linked services have their own policies. |
| Contact form / email | Your name, email and message, so we can reply. | Our email provider | Contact us only if you want to; ask us to delete the thread at any time. |
Where consent is required by law (for example in the UK and EU), non-essential cookies are not set until you accept them, and you can change your choice at any time. Where the site is shown to visitors in California or other US states with privacy laws, the advertising cookies described above may count as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under those laws; you can opt out through the consent notice or the "Do Not Sell or Share" control where shown.
3. The AI tools
The AI dating tools (profile generator, opening line generator, reply generator, scam risk checker, photo checklist and app finder) run in your browser. The text you type, and any details of profiles or conversations you paste in, are processed on your device and are not transmitted to or stored by us. We do not see them, and closing the tab clears them. The only data associated with using a tool is the ordinary page analytics described in section 2 (that the tool page was opened), which contains none of what you typed. We still recommend not pasting full names, phone numbers, addresses or other people's messages with identifying details into any tool, ours or anyone else's.
4. The Badoo AI app
The app is a dating and social service, so it needs more than the website does. We collect only what the features you use require.
What we collect
- Account details: name, date of birth (to confirm you are 18 or over), gender, email address and/or phone number, password (stored hashed), and optional social login identifiers if you sign up that way.
- Profile content: photos, bio, interests, mood status, what you're looking for, and any other fields you fill in. Your profile is visible to other users of the app; write it with that in mind.
- Verification selfie: if you verify, a live selfie compared against your profile photos. The selfie is used for the check and is not shown to other users.
- Location: approximate location from your device while you use the app (and in the background only if you allow it), used to show you people nearby and to show others your distance, never your exact position. You can hide your distance in settings.
- Messages and interactions: messages, likes, matches, blocks and reports, so the service works and so we can act on reports.
- Device and usage data: device type, operating system, app version, identifiers, crash logs, and how the app is used, for security, fraud detection and improvement.
- Payments: if you buy a subscription or credits, the transaction is processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store; we receive confirmation and a transaction reference, not your full card details.
Why we use it (and the legal basis where one is required)
- To provide the service: creating your account, showing your profile to others and theirs to you, delivering messages, verification, matching (performance of a contract).
- To keep people safe: detecting fake, spam and scam accounts, reviewing reports, enforcing our terms, blurring or flagging content that breaks them (legitimate interests and, where applicable, legal obligation). Automated systems help with this; a person reviews decisions that significantly affect you, such as a ban, on request.
- To improve the app: analytics, crash reports and feature testing (legitimate interests; consent where required).
- To communicate: service messages about your account, and marketing messages only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- To comply with law and respond to lawful requests.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share your profile, photos or messages with other dating-app companies. We do not use the content of your private messages for advertising.
5. Sharing
We share personal data only with: other users, to the extent your profile and messages are part of using the app; service providers who process data for us under contract (hosting, email delivery, analytics, crash reporting, payment confirmation, content moderation), who may use it only to provide their service; advertising partners on the website, as described in section 2; professional advisers; and authorities, courts or others where the law requires it or where it is necessary to protect someone's safety or our rights. If Badoo AI is ever sold or merged, your data may transfer to the new owner under the same protections, and you will be told.
6. Retention
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Website analytics | Up to 14 months in the analytics provider, then aggregated or deleted. |
| Server logs | Up to 30 days. |
| Contact messages | Up to 2 years after the last reply, or sooner on request. |
| App account and profile | While your account is active. After deletion, a short recovery window (30 days) in case you change your mind, then removed. |
| Verification selfie | Only as long as needed to complete and evidence the check, then deleted, subject to the fraud-prevention period below. |
| Messages | While the conversation exists for either participant; removed after account deletion, subject to the periods below. |
| Safety and fraud records | Limited records of bans, reports and related identifiers may be kept for up to 2 years after deletion to stop banned accounts returning and to comply with legal duties. |
| Payment records | As long as tax and accounting law requires (typically 6โ7 years). |
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to receive a copy in a portable format, to restrict or object to certain processing (including profiling and direct marketing), and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. In the app, you can edit or delete most of your data yourself in Settings, including deleting your account. For anything else, contact us (section 12); we will verify it is you and respond within a month, or sooner for straightforward requests. You can also complain to your data-protection regulator (in the UK, the ICO; in the EU, your national authority). We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights. Choices for the website's cookies are in section 2, and the tools keep nothing you could need deleted.
8. Security
We use encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls, and monitoring for unusual activity. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affecting you occurs, we will tell you and the regulator as the law requires. You can help by using a strong, unique password and by never sharing a login code with anyone, including someone claiming to be Badoo AI support; we will never ask for your password.
9. Children
The app and the tools are for adults only. You must be 18 or over to create an account, and we remove accounts we find belong to minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International transfers
Our providers may process data outside the country you live in, including in the United States. Where data leaves the UK or EU, we rely on adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses and equivalent safeguards, and we choose providers that commit to them.
11. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices or the law change, and the effective date at the top moves when we do. Material changes to how the app uses your data will be announced in the app before they take effect.
