Badoo vs Bumble: Which Fits Your Dating Goals?
Same owner, different apps. Which fits a relationship, casual dating, friends, networking or just talking to people; how each works after Bumble's 2026 messaging change; who's on them and where; cost; safety; and how to run both for a month.
Badoo and Bumble are owned by the same company, share the same safety technology, and are otherwise built for different people. Bumble is match-first, prompt-based and dating-with-intent, with separate modes for friends and networking; for a decade its defining rule was that women sent the first message, a rule it loosened in 2024 and dropped in August 2026, when it also extended the reply window from 24 to 72 hours. Badoo is grid-plus-deck, lets you message almost anyone without matching, shows a mood status and a Looking-for field on every profile, and leans social and casual as much as romantic. This comparison works through the two apps by goal (relationship, casual, friends, networking, just talking), then covers how each works, who's on them and where, cost, safety, and the differences at a glance, and ends with which to pick. Prices change by region and plan; both apps are usable free.
For the other big comparison, see Badoo vs Tinder; for one app in depth, the Badoo review. Both apps are scored with 29 others on the Badoo AI home page.
By goal: which fits
A serious relationship
Bumble's culture and prompt-based profiles skew toward intent, and its Date mode filters (relationship goals, dealbreakers) are stronger. Badoo works if you put "here for something real" in line one and use the Looking-for field, but you'll wade through more social and casual profiles. Consider a relationship-first app alongside either; the relationship apps ranking compares them.
Casual dating and meeting lots of people
Badoo's People Nearby grid and message-anyone model mean more conversations per hour of use, and its base is comfortable with casual and social intent. Bumble's match-first flow is slower by design. Casual and social apps ranks the field.
Friends
Bumble BFF (and the standalone Bumble For Friends app) is purpose-built and keeps friend-matching separate from dating. Badoo's friends option lives inside the main feed, which is less structured but more social. Structured: Bumble. Casual and chatty: Badoo.
Professional networking
Bumble Bizz exists; Badoo has nothing equivalent. If networking is the goal, this one's not close, though LinkedIn does it better than either.
Just talking to people, or new in town
Badoo. Mood status ("new in town, need recommendations"), open messaging and a grid of who's around make it the better app for low-stakes chat and for arriving somewhere new, especially in the regions where it's big.
You're a woman who wants a quiet inbox
Historically Bumble, because only you could open a chat. Since August 2026 anyone in a match can message first, but only matches can reach you at all, which is still quieter than Badoo's open model. On Badoo, the verified-only filter and message settings get you most of the way there.
How each app works
Encounters is a swipe deck; People Nearby is a grid of everyone in range you can message directly, within a daily allowance, until they reply. Profiles carry a mood status and a Looking-for field. Verification lifts you in the ranking.
Swipe, match, then chat, with 72 hours for a first message before the match expires. Profiles are photos interleaved with prompt answers. Date, BFF and Bizz are separate modes with separate swiping. Opening Moves lets you set a question matches can answer.
Badoo gives you more conversations sooner and a busier inbox; Bumble gives you fewer, slower, more intentional ones. On Badoo the first photo and the first line of your bio carry the tile; on Bumble the prompt answers carry the profile.
The 2026 change matters for anyone reading older reviews: Bumble no longer requires women to message first in straight matches. Women can still go first, and Opening Moves still exists, but a man can now open a chat too. The quiet-inbox advantage Bumble had came mostly from match-only messaging, and that part hasn't changed.
Who's on each, and where
Bumble is strongest in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and India, skews 22โ40, and attracts people who describe themselves as dating with intent; it's the app people move to when they're tired of Tinder. Badoo is strongest in Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, Eastern Europe and parts of South and Southeast Asia, skews slightly older and more social, and includes a visible share of people there to chat or make friends. In a Bumble-strong country, Bumble will usually have the bigger dating pool; in a Badoo-strong one, Badoo often has more people who actually reply. The regional apps ranking shows where each leads, and personality and friends apps covers the platonic side of both.

Safety: shared tech, different designs
Because both apps belong to Bumble Inc., they run the same core protections: Deception Detector, which the company says blocks most identified spam, scam and fake profiles before anyone sees them; Private Detector, which blurs unsolicited explicit images; selfie-to-photo verification with a badge; and block and report in two taps. The difference is design. Bumble's match-only messaging means nobody can reach your inbox without a mutual like, so spam attempts are rarer. Badoo's open messaging means more strangers write, which its verified-only filter and message settings largely handle. Neither stops a real, verified person running a romance or crypto script, so the same habits apply on both: video call before meeting, never send money, keep the chat in the app until you've met. Running both
Because the accounts are separate and the profile work is identical, running both for a month is cheap and answers the question for your city and goal. Do it properly:
- Same six photos on both; dating profile photo tips covers the set.
- Verify on both; turn on Badoo's verified-only filter.
- Badoo: intent in the first line of About me, mood status set, Looking-for filled.
- Bumble: two or three prompt answers with specifics; set an Opening Move.
- Message first on both: how to start a conversation on Badoo; the same lines work on Bumble.
- Log in daily for two weeks; both rankings reward activity.
- Count real conversations per week, not matches. Keep the app that produces them.
- If neither does, Badoo alternatives lists what to try next.
