How to Improve Your Badoo Profile
Photos, verification, the About me, interests, mood status and the settings that decide who sees you, fixed in the order they matter, with before-and-after examples and a 10-point checklist. Everything here is free; none of it needs Premium.
Most Badoo profiles fail for the same four reasons: the first photo isn't a clear face, the account isn't verified, the About me says nothing a stranger can reply to, and the interests and mood status are empty. Fix those and the difference is not subtle; people who go from an unfinished profile to a complete, verified one routinely see replies multiply. This guide walks through every part of a Badoo profile in the order it matters, with before-and-after examples, a six-slot photo plan, a bio formula, the settings that affect how often you're shown, and a checklist to run at the end. Everything here is free to do; none of it needs Premium.
If you're brand new, the beginner's guide covers setup first. For ready-made bios, Badoo bio examples has 50 to personalise, and the AI dating profile generator writes one from your details in seconds.
Why profiles fail on Badoo
Badoo is different from swipe-first apps in a way that changes what a good profile looks like. In People Nearby, the grid where most conversations start, you appear as a small tile: your first photo, your name and age, and the first line of your About me. That tile is judged in under a second, and then, if it passes, the full profile is read. So the lead photo and the first line do almost all the work, verification decides how high in the grid you appear at all, and the rest of the profile decides whether the person who opened it has anything to say. An unverified profile with a group shot as its lead and "just ask" as its bio fails at every one of those steps, which is why it gets nothing, however good the person behind it.
Fix the photos first
Photos decide most first impressions, and on Badoo the first one is shown tiny. Plan six slots and fill them in this order:
Three rules apply to all of them. Recent: from the last year, looking like you now; "didn't look like the photos" is the top first-date complaint. Honest: light colour correction is fine, face-changing filters are not, and no shirtless or bikini shots as the lead. Clean: tidy backgrounds, no ex-partners, no cropped-out arms on your shoulder. If you have nothing usable, one bright afternoon with a friend and a phone fixes it: fifty photos in bursts while you talk, keep five. Run them through the photo checklist before uploading; dating profile photo tips goes deeper.
Get verified
Verification is the single change with the biggest measurable effect on Badoo, because it does two things at once: it puts a blue badge on your tile that tells people you're real, and it lifts you in People Nearby's ranking, so more people see you in the first place. It takes two minutes: open your profile, tap Verify, and copy the pose Badoo shows in a selfie. If it fails, it's almost always light or an obscured face; retake by a window with the whole face visible and make sure your profile photos clearly show your face too. Once verified, you can also filter to see only other verified people, which cuts fakes out of your own feed. Full walkthrough on Badoo photo verification.
Rewrite the About me
Badoo's About me allows about 1,000 characters, but only the first line shows on your card, so lead with the thing that filters: what you want. Then two or three specific interests with a detail attached, one line only you could write, and an easy question or invitation. Two to four sentences is plenty.
Before
Easygoing guy, love to laugh, into music and travel. Just ask :)Nothing specific, nothing to reply to, and no intent, so every kind of person messages or, more often, nobody does. After
Here for dates that could turn into something. Colombo-based, trail runs on Sundays (slow), small gigs at Barefoot, and on a mission to find the best kottu in the city. Current leader?Intent in the first line, three real details, and a question a stranger can answer in ten seconds. If you're stuck, Badoo bio examples has 50 bios by tone with blanks to fill, and the AI dating profile generator has a Badoo preset that writes three from your city, goal, vibe and interests. Whatever you use, replace every placeholder with something true; a real cafรฉ beats "a cafรฉ" every time.
Interests, mood status and the small fields
Add your real interests in Edit profile โ Interests. They appear as tags, other people can filter by them, and they give strangers an opener. Choose the ones you'd talk about for an hour, not a wall of everything.
The short line under your name, shown first in chat. Set one that's current and actionable: "up for coffee this weekend", "new here, need recommendations". Change it weekly; it's the cheapest way to look active.
Height, work, education, languages, kids, smoking: fill them in. Empty fields read as hiding something, and several are filters people use. Keep it honest; these are hard to walk back on a date.
Badoo lets you state what you're here for. Set it to match your bio; a profile that says "relationship" in one place and nothing in another confuses people and the ranking.
Real first name, real age. Both are hard to change later, false ones get reported, and verification is easier when everything matches.
Where Badoo offers prompt-style questions, answer two with specifics. Prompt answers are the easiest thing on a profile to reply to.
Settings that change who sees you
A finished profile still needs to be shown to the right people. In Settings โ Who I want to see, set gender, an honest age range and a distance wider than feels natural; you can tighten it once replies are steady. Keep Online status on, because Badoo surfaces active users and people message profiles that are online now. Use Hide my distance if you don't want your area shown, but leave location itself on or you disappear from People Nearby entirely. Turn on the verified-only filter in your own feed to spend your daily contacts on real people. And log in daily for a couple of weeks after rebuilding the profile; the ranking rewards recent activity, and a burst of activity on a fresh profile is when Badoo shows you most.
Before and after: the same person, two profiles
Before
Photo: group shot at a wedding, sunglasses. Verified: no. Bio: "Easygoing, love to laugh, just ask." Interests: none. Mood: blank. Looking for: not set.Rarely appears in People Nearby, gets opened by curious people, gives them nothing to say. After
Photo: close smiling face by a window, then five varied shots. Verified: yes. Bio: intent in line one, three real details, a question. Interests: trail running, live music, cooking. Mood: "up for coffee this weekend". Looking for: relationship.Ranks higher, reads as real, and every field gives a stranger an opener. Same person; the app finally has something to show.Once the profile is fixed, the first message is the next lever: the Badoo conversation starters page and the opening line generator handle that, and online dating tips covers the habits that keep replies coming.
