Badoo Review: Features, Pros & Cons
Is Badoo worth it in 2026? We tested the free and Premium tiers on Android and iPhone, scored it on the same 10-point scale as 30 other apps, and compared it with Tinder and Bumble. Here's what it does well, where it falls short, and who should use it.
Badoo ranks #6 of 31 apps on Badoo AI. โ 4.2 on Google Play from 6.64M reviews, 100M+ downloads. Excellent for casual and social dating in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East; a weak fit for relationship-only daters and for North America.
Badoo is the dating app that predates the swipe. Launched in 2006 and owned since 2020 by Bumble Inc., it has more than 100 million Android downloads and one of the largest user bases of any dating app in the world, concentrated in Europe, Latin America, South and Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Its defining feature is that you can message people without matching first, which makes it unusually fast to start conversations and unusually mixed in who you meet. This review covers what it does, what it costs, how safe it is, who it suits, and how it compares with Tinder and Bumble, scored on the same 10-point scale Badoo AI uses for all 31 apps.
We tested Badoo on Android and iPhone in September 2026 with free and Premium accounts, checked store ratings the same month, and drew on the pricing and safety research behind our Badoo Premium and is Badoo safe? pages. If you're new to the app, the beginner's guide walks through every feature in order.
Score breakdown
Every app on Badoo AI gets one score out of 10: half is its live Google Play rating (normalised), half is our editorial assessment of user base (20%), match quality for its stated purpose (10%), value and free tier (10%) and safety and verification (10%). The full method is on the home page.
The pattern is clear: Badoo scores near the top for user base and value, solidly for safety, and lowest for match quality, because open messaging means the person you meet could want anything from a chat to a marriage. That is a feature for casual and social daters and a cost for everyone else.
Badoo features, explained
Pros and cons
What's good
- Massive user base, especially outside North America: one of the largest of any dating app.
- Genuinely generous free tier: message, browse, verify and video-call without paying.
- Message without matching via People Nearby, so conversations start fast.
- Strong verification and safety tooling shared with Bumble, including the Private Detector.
- Cheap Premium on longer plans, well under Tinder, Bumble and Hinge for comparable features.
- Works on Android, iPhone and the web with one account.
What's not
- Intent is all over the map; you'll meet people wanting chat, friends, hookups and relationships in the same grid.
- Lots of low-effort, spam and fake profiles, a side effect of being big and free.
- Thin in the United States and Canada compared with Tinder, Hinge and Bumble.
- Daily contact limit and ads on free accounts nudge you toward Premium.
- Feels more social network than dating app at times; live video and gifts can distract.
- No dedicated friends mode or relationship-style fields, unlike Bumble BFF or Feeld.
Price and value
Badoo is free for the essentials. Premium is typically about $4 for a week, $10 for a month, $25 for three months and $35 for six months in US stores, which works out around $6โ8 a month on the longer plans; Premium Plus, at roughly $20โ30 a month, adds daily boosts and advanced filters and is rarely worth it. Credits come in packs from about $1 for 100 to $36 for 2,750 and expire after six months. Prices vary by country and promotion, and the in-app price is the one that counts. Our advice: use the free tier for two weeks with a finished, verified profile; buy three or six months of Premium only if you want to see who liked you; skip weekly plans and credits. The full breakdown, feature table and ways to pay less are on Badoo Premium pricing, and is Badoo free? covers exactly what you get without paying.
Safety and fake profiles
Badoo's safety tooling is better than its reputation: selfie verification, the Private Detector, in-app video, block and report that work after unmatching, and moderation shared with Bumble. Its weakness is scale. A large, free, open-messaging pool attracts spam accounts and romance scammers, and Badoo's AI screening catches many but not all. The practical rules cover almost everything: filter to verified profiles, keep chat inside Badoo until you've had a video call, never send money, gift cards, crypto or codes to anyone you haven't met, and turn on Hide my distance if you don't want your area shown. We rate safety 7/10, above the free social apps (Skout, MeetMe, Tagged) and below Bumble and Hinge. Detail on is Badoo safe? and Badoo fake profiles; the scam risk checker scores a suspicious match in a minute, and AI scams and fake dating profiles explains the newest tells.
Who Badoo is for
Choose Badoo if you want a big pool and free messaging, you're in Europe, Latin America, South or Southeast Asia or the Middle East, you dislike the match-first swipe game, or you're open to friends and casual dates as well as something more. It's also the easiest big app to make friends on. Skip Badoo if you want a curated, relationship-only crowd (Bumble, Hinge or the apps on the relationships page), you're in the US or Canada (Tinder and Hinge have far bigger pools), you want a faith or community app (Muzz, Christian Mingle), or you need relationship-style or identity fields that Badoo doesn't offer (Feeld, HER, Taimi). The AI app finder checks all 31 apps against your goal, age and region if you're unsure, and Badoo alternatives lists the closest options.

Getting the most out of Badoo
Three things move the needle. First, verify before you message anyone; the badge lifts your rank in People Nearby and your reply rate more than anything else. Second, finish the profile: a clear, smiling lead photo (it's shown tiny in the grid), an About me whose first line says what you want, interests as tags and a mood status you change weekly. The AI dating profile generator has a Badoo preset, Badoo profile tips and bio examples show what works, and the photo checklist grades your photos. Third, spend your time in People Nearby reading bios and sending four or five specific openers a day rather than twenty generic ones; the opening line generator has a People Nearby mode and Badoo conversation starters has more. Then move to an in-app video call within a few exchanges. If it still isn't working, no matches on Badoo walks through the usual fixes and Badoo not working covers the technical ones.
